About Me

I'm Jean-Paul Ainam, a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with 10+ years of experience spanning large-scale recommendation systems, ranking, computer vision, and multimodal AI. Today I work at Meta, where I own ranking and recommendation improvements for Facebook Feed — designing and launching models that optimize social engagement signals for billions of people every day.

My path into machine learning ran through research. I earned my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, focusing on person re-identification and deep learning, and I later worked as a Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Associate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on multimodal systems that fuse video, gaze, and language to assess human performance. Along the way I've published 20+ peer-reviewed papers.

Before Meta, I built ML data infrastructure at Amazon and led production software for distributed teams across Africa and Asia. I care about the full arc of a system — from problem framing and feature engineering through experimentation, statistical validation, and shipping to production.

Outside of work, I design and ship my own AI products under Logesta Labs — including WishSong, HairstyleTry, Onirix, and Storelane. I enjoy taking an idea end-to-end: from a research insight to a product people actually use.
